What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments 1972 (20 U.S.C. 1681 et seq.) and its implementing regulations, 34 C.F.R. Part 106, prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities operated by recipients of Federal financial assistance. It is the landmark legislation that bans gender based discrimination in schools and colleges.

Title IX states: "No person in the U.S. shall, on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal aid."

Title IX Policy

It is the landmark legislation that bans gender-based discrimination in schools and colleges.

Title IX requires educational institutions to maintain policies, practices and programs that do not discriminate against anyone based on sex, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation. Fair and equal treatment in all aspects of higher education is expected under the Title IX regulations. Ways to Report

At CCAC, there are multiple ways  that you can report an incident to the Civil Rights and Title IX Office.

Title IX Commonly Asked Questions

The United States Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is in charge of enforcing Title IX. Information regarding OCR can be found at this link.

ALL students, employees, guests or third-party vendors are covered by Title IX.

Any member of the College community, guest, or third party who has experienced or witnessed any form of sex/gender-based discrimination or harassment should report all misconduct to CCAC’s Civil Rights Compliance Officer, who serves as the designated Title IX Coordinator:

You may also use the College’s online reporting system to report a civil rights violation or incident of sexual misconduct. The online reporting form, which can be submitted anonymously, is linked here.

Any sex and gender based discrimination and harassment including sexual harassment, domestic violence, and harassment based on gender identity and sexual orientation. If you’re wondering whether or not to report an incident, the best practice is to report it and the Title IX Coordinator can help with next steps.

Everyone has a part in helping to create a safe working and learning environment at CCAC. To this end, all members of the College community are encouraged to report any incidents of sex/gender-based discrimination and harassment to the Title IX Coordinator. All CCAC employees are considered Mandatory Reporters, and should report any allegations of sex/gender-based discrimination and harassment in compliance with the process outlined in the Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct Reporting and Response Procedure.

Community Resources

Digital harassment can encompass many types of abuse, such as cyber harassment, cyberbullying or trolling. Online or digital harassment can amount to sexual harassment when it is unwanted and sexual in nature. Some examples include unwanted requests to "sext," spreading or sending sexual images or nude photos, and spreading rumors about sexual behavior.
