CCAC West Hills Center to Offer New Toyota TECS Elite Program
Pittsburgh
The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) has announced the launch of a new automotive program available at CCAC's West Hills Center. The Toyota Technical Education College Support (TECS) Elite program, a seven-week course designed as an advanced maintenance and general service class following Toyota's specific requirements for maintenance level certification, will be held June 6 through July 20.
Registration for the course begins Feb. 6. Individuals looking to jump-start a career as a service technician can obtain both hands-on and classroom training on a number of topics including: the role of a service technician and dealership operations; how to navigate the Toyota information system (TIS); use of Toyota Techstream; shop safety and pollution; vehicle lift training; service preparation; hand tool training; multipoint inspections; maintenance procedures; brake system operation and service; fundamental electrical training; and mounting and balancing tires and wheel alignments. As part of the curriculum, students will also complete the required Toyota e-learning web course modules and receive state and emissions inspection certification training.
"This seven-week program is a great choice for somebody who is looking to get a quick start at a dealership. The goal is to provide the knowledge and skills required to fulfill Toyota's maintenance level certification and give students a solid platform to build on. As with our other automotive programs, we also will try to help place the students in a job once they complete the course," said Jennifer Cowans, CCAC executive director, West Hills Center.

About CCAC Automotive Programs
CCAC's Automotive programs prepare students for accelerated careers servicing and repairing today's high-tech automobiles. Students become trained in the latest automotive service technologies and methods - including emerging green technologies, such as hybrids, plug-in electrics and natural gas-powered vehicles. Academic courses included in the associate degree program provide students with the necessary background for effective communication and increased opportunities for career advancement. The curriculum prepares students to take the tests necessary to earn Pennsylvania Safety and Emission Inspection licensing and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. CCAC administers these tests as well. All CCAC instructors are ASE-certified master technicians with years of industry experience.
For individuals who wish to specialize and get on-the-job training, CCAC offers two-year apprenticeship and degree programs in conjunction with area dealerships. These manufacturer-certified programs, identified as GM ASEP, Ford ASSET and FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) MOPAR CAP, combine classroom and lab work with a paid on-the-job training program at a participating dealer or repair shop, preparing students for careers as automotive service technicians in General Motors, Ford or Fiat Chrysler dealerships. As apprentice technicians, students gain the technical competency and skills to diagnose, service and maintain vehicles using recommended procedures, special tools and service information.
