FREE Digital Skills Courses Offered at CCAC Homewood-Brushton Center in April

Students have the opportunity to learn basic digital skills through a free program at CCAC

PITTSBURGH—The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), in collaboration with Literacy Pittsburgh, is providing FREE, noncredit basic Digital Skills courses at the college’s Homewood-Brushton Center.

The “Computer Basics Total Beginners” course is six sessions. Each session will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25, 2024. Students will gain confidence in using a computer for everyday tasks. This course focuses on basic mouse and typing skills, identifying places to store and save files, troubleshooting basic computer issues, and using Google Drive to save and store files. Learners may also take the NorthStar assessment and have an opportunity to earn a certificate.

The “Internet Basics Master” course runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Class dates for this six-session course are Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 9, 18, 11, 16, 23 and 25. Instruction includes bookmarking, navigating web pages and internet safety. Students will gain insight into using keyboard shortcuts and search terms to make searching online for employment and information easier. They will also learn to critically assess websites to find the best information. Learners may take a NorthStar digital literacy assessment and have an opportunity to earn a certificate.
