Why Medical Assisting?

As members of one of the nation's fastest growing occupations, medical assistants work alongside doctors in physicians' offices and other health care facilities, where they perform essential clinical and administrative duties. These include taking medical histories, recording the vital signs of patients and maintaining medical records.

Students enrolled in the certificate program are prepared for entry-level positions as medical assistants in a doctor's office, clinic or other health care setting. All students must complete the certificate program, which includes a 160-hour nonpaid clincial externship. Certificate graduates may continue their education to complete the associate degree program.

The program's goal is to prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.
